Gotland

Gotland is an island located to the south east of Neuland. It is part of the Newland Principalities by virtue of it being a conquered and occupied territory of the Kingdom of Eisenfeld.
Gotland was invaded and annexed in 703 PR by the Kingdom of Eisenfeld. Officially, this was in response to an assassination attempt upon Fürst Theobald VII, then Crown Prince of Eisenfeld. However, there was little evidence to support this claim, and most believe (perhaps rightly) that the real reason for war was over Gotland's rich and easily obtainable copper deposits.
[edit] Geography
Gotland is a solitary island filled with gentle hills and forests. The north-east regions of the island are famous for having an abundance of easily mined copper.
Over the past 40 years, since the opening of the Cisalpine Blight, the southern regions have become increasingly infected with Corruption.
[edit] Places of Note
[edit] Visby
The city of Visby is the largest settlement in all of Gotland. It is a port city on the north shore. Visby is a known hotbed of civil unrest and much of it was burnt or destroyed in 973 PR, during a series of riots that occurred after the Baden Revolt (the Gotlanders, having seen the people of Baden recover their country, thought they might be able to do the same).
Visby is home to huge garrisons of Eisenfeld troops, though this is more because of the Cisalpine Blight than for civilian problems.
