Kobolds are a humanoid species. They are native to all islands within Terracopia, but are found primarily in deserts and dry grasslands. Kobolds are not a player-character species.
[edit] Physiology
Kobolds are among the smallest of the lesser humanoid species. They have scaled, dry "skin," with a coloration that ranges from light tan to deep russet. They do not grow hair. Kobolds have a natural lifespan of 60 years, and reach physical maturity after 16.
Their eyes have yellow or orange-colored sclera and slitted irises. They do not have eyelids and instead have a series of four nictitating membranes that provide lubrication. One of these membranes can be closed while still allowing the Kobold to see (after a fashion), a useful trait during sandstorms. Kobolds have poor day-time vision but can see well at night.
Kobolds have protruding snouts and possess an excellent sense of smell. Their nostrils have a special membrane that can close to keep out dust.
Kobolds do not have ears. Instead, they have a series of six exposed tympanic membranes on the outside of their skulls. Despite this, Kobolds have an acute sense of directional hearing.
Kobolds have no special resistance to Corruption.
[edit] Ecology
Kobolds are a carnivorous species. They are primarily hunters, but more often than not are carrion eaters. They possess a strong immune system, which helps prevent diseases that are carried by rotten food.
Kobolds do not normally cook their food but will do so from time to time.
[edit] Society
Kobolds organize into clannish tribes led by a single chieftain. Both males and females will serve as hunters or soldiers. They are fiercely territorial, and will fight to the death to defend their clan's hunting grounds. Despite being one of the lesser humanoid species, Kobolds are known for their creativity in warfare and will use their small size to their advantage, often swarming opponents.
Kobold young (called "runts") are raised collectively by the tribe's pregnant females. At physical maturity, all kobolds (male and female) are apprenticed to a task that they will perform for the rest of their lives.
Kobold society is relatively brutish. Weakness of any kind is something to be exploited. Power and respect is typically accorded only to those who can take it.
[edit] Religion
The primary deity of Kobold society is of Ba'al, though they are not particularly religious.
[edit] Technology
Kobolds are considered one of the "lesser" humanoid species due to the fact that they do not engage in any form of metalworking (including smithing). What metal weapons or armors they carry are usually looted from others.
[edit] Sorcery
Kobolds are extremely poor sorcerers. While many tribes have a medicine woman or "sorcerer", such individuals rarely know any real magick, or only hedge magick at best.
