Humans are a humanoid species. They may be found throughout all islands within Terracopia, though the largest concentration of human settlements lie on the islands of Pompeii, Tuscan, Aquitania, Corsica, and the Fuerstentuemer Neuland. Humans prefer temperate climates but are able to thrive in any region. Humans are a player-character species.
[edit] Physiology
Humans are humanoid mammals with skin color that varies among all shades, with a tanned white being the most common. They typically have thick, curly hair of a dark color, though all shades are possible. The males of the species are capable of growing facial hair and in some tribes this may signify social status. Humans have a natural lifespan of 70 years, and reach physical maturity after 14 years.
Humans have a variety of brows and nose shapes, with eyes that come in many shades. They have no special visual abilities.
Humans possess no special resistance to Corruption.
[edit] Ecology
Humans are biologically omnivorous and generally consume a diet mixed with fruits, vegetables, and meat. They do not eat carrion, and are not well-suited biologically to do so.
[edit] Society
Human society is varied through the islands - more than any other species. They tend to have complicated social structures (even the most simple of governments can be filled with arcane bureaucracies). Humans tend to gather into communities that are typically larger than that of other species.
Humans tend to organize into hierarchies. Many of these governments are elected, though most are inherited and feudal.
Humans do not usually keep slaves. Most human cultures consider this to be an abhorrent practice and one of several taboos (other taboos being incest and cannibalism). Not that not all human cultures forbid all taboos - cannibalism is still practiced regularly in some parts of Terracopia.
Most humans undergo some degree of education. Many who live in cities may attend a university, though this tends to be restricted to those who have a degree of financial means.
[edit] Religion
As with their governments, human religious beliefs vary from society to society. Among the educated (or enlightened), religion is frowned upon or referred to as superstition; these individuals are atheist and share beliefs similar to the elves: that the "gods" are merely Daemons or powerful elementals.
However, outside of larger cities and among the common people, religion is a popular social structure.
[edit] Technology
Humans are considered one of the enlightened species due to their capacity to use technology. They are expert metal workers and are highly competent in the use of clockwork and steam technology.
[edit] Sorcery
Humans are capable sorcerers, though in modern times human society has come to rely more on technology than magicks. Thaumaturgy (as the science of Magick is called) is still a respected field of study and occupation.
