Goblins are a humanoid species. They are native to all islands within Terracopia, but prefer jungles, marshes, and other wetlands to deserts. Goblins are not a player-character species.

[edit] Physiology

Goblins are short, squat, humanoid creatures with greasy, ash-grey skin. They have sparse hair growth (usually black, but greying as they reach middle-age). Goblins have a natural lifespan of 40 years, and reach physical maturity after 10.

Their eyes have yellow-colored sclera and slitted irises. They do not have eyelids and instead have a series of three nictitating membranes that provide lubrication. Goblins have poor day-time vision but can see well at night.

They do not have protruding noses; instead, their nostrils are set flat into the face. This gives them a poor sense of smell (which may account for their ability to consume carrion with relish).

Goblins have an acute sense of hearing, as evidenced by their largish, pointed ears.

Goblins share a peculiar resistance to Corruption.

[edit] Ecology

Goblins are a carnivorous species. They are primarily hunters, but have been known to consume carrion. They possess a strong immune system, which helps prevent diseases that are carried by rotten food.

Goblins do not cook their food and consider such activity to be an insult to their god, Urh-Mah (see below).

[edit] Society

Goblins organize into clannish, socialist tribes led by a "silverhair" single chieftain. Both males and females will serve as hunters or soldiers. They are fiercely territorial, and will fight to the death to defend their clan's hunting grounds.

Goblin young (called "runts") are raised collectively by the tribe's pregnant females and those males and females too old to hunt or serve as soldier. At physical maturity, all goblins (male and female) undergo a ceremony of adulthood, where they are taken on their first hunt. Upon blooding their first kill, the runt is considered a full member of the tribe, complete with the responsibilities included.

Goblins have a great respect for their elders and infirm. Those goblins injured in war or through other means are taken care of by the tribe until they die naturally.

[edit] Religion

The primary deity of Goblin society is an aspect of Ba'al they call "Urh-Mah the Breeder." To goblins, Urh-Mah is the source of all living creatures, and thus food. There is a short prayer ritual performed before any meal as well as a short ritual done by the hunters before heading into the field.

[edit] Technology

Goblins are considered one of the "lesser" humanoid species due to the fact that they do not engage in any form of metalworking (including smithing). What metal weapons or armors they carry are usually looted from others.

[edit] Sorcery

Goblins are extremely poor sorcerers. While most tribes have a medicine woman or "sorcerer", such individuals rarely know any real magick, or only hedge magick at best.
