The Fuerstentuemer Neuland (literally, "Newland Principalities") is a group of five governments set into regions of the island, each of which is considered to be sovereign: Lindau, Uhrenheim, Rosenhain, Baden, and Eisenfeld. Additionally, Gotland is considered to be part of the Fuerstentuemer Neuland due to the fact that it is beholden to Eisenfeld. The island itself is referred to simply as "Neuland", though its original name is still used by the inhabitants from time to time.
To the north lies the island of Nordland, to the south west is Belgica, and to the south east is the Cisalpina archipelago.
The Fuerstenuemer Neuland is considered to be one of the most "enlightened" regions within Terracopia. Its inhabitants are primarily human, though many dwarves and orcs may also be found here.
[edit] Geography
Neuland is an island divided by a central mountain range known for being extraordinarily difficult to cross. Despite this, the Neulanders have managed to carve out large settlements within it. Because of the mountains, the island naturally falls into five great regions, each of which has developed its own government. In older times, wars between the regions were common; however, in the modern era, the value of trade and the presence of the Cisalpine Blight have forced the principalities into peace.
Neuland has a temperate climate, though winters in the mountains can be harsh. Great pine forests fill much of the land, and there is one large lake, Blausee, located within the Eisenfeld region.
[edit] Settlements
By far, the largest Neuland settlement is the city of Neustadt. However, the island is dotted with settlements, both large and small.
[edit] Regions
There are five (or six, depending on how one counts) regions of Neuland, each of which is its own government.
[edit] Baden
The People's Republic of Baden is a large member of the Fuerstentuemer Neuland. It is a democratic republic, founded 64 years ago after the royal line was extinguished during a period of civil unrest.
Baden is one of the less industrial regions of Neuland and is covered in large areas of farmland.
[edit] Eisenfeld
The Kingdom of Eisenfeld is the largest government and region within the Fuerstentuemer Neuland. It is home to both the great Blausee and the city of Neustadt. It is ruled by König Theobald IX of the House of Hohenstaufen.
Eisenfeld is a region of industry and technology. In recent years, much of the great forests that surround the Blausee have been cleared and the parts of the lake itself have been polluted.
[edit] Gotland
While not technically part of Neuland, the island of Gotland is considered part of the Fuerstentuemer Neuland. It is a territory of the kingdom of Eisenfeld, having been conquered 300 years ago. The largest settlement in Gotland is the city of Visby.
Gotland is a region of extreme civil unrest, and the Gotlanders have been seeking independence from Eisenfeld for over a century. The opening of the Cisalpine Blight has further marked the region with violence and made independence all the more unlikely, as Eisenfeld soldiers have been pouring into the island for years in order to fight the Daemons of the Blight.
[edit] Lindau
The Duchy of Lindau is a small, sovereign kingdom ruled by Gero the Great, seventh Duke of of the House of Lindau.
Lindau is a heavily agricultural region, known for the quality of its horses (and beer).
[edit] Rosenhain
The Grand Principality of Rosenhain is the third largest region within Neuland. It is ruled by Graf Heinrich von Hohenzollern. Compared to the rest of the principalities, Rosenhain is "backwards" and "superstitious", and much of the region's technology is dependent upon that of Eisenfeld.
The region takes its name from a mythical rose garden that will, once every thousand years, grow a single magical rose, the thorns of which grant eternal life when pricked into the skin.
[edit] Uhrenheim
The Margraviate of Uhrenheim is the second largest region within Neuland. It is a principality, currently ruled by Elector Karl Storck. In theory, the Margraviate (or Mark) is an elected monarchy; however, the House of Storck has held the throne for six generations.
Uhrenheim is well known for the quality of its technology.
[edit] History
Of note is the formation of several mercenary companies in the time immediately preceding the Fourth Elvish War.
