A Daemon is a creature of borne of the Corruption and native to the Corruption Dimension.

Daemons are not native to the world of the Archipelago, instead having been drawn here through one of several Blood Gates. All Daemons are Corruption; not all Corruption are Daemons.

According to Die Corruptis Mysteriis by Doktor Ernst von Roeb, there are several classifications of Deamons. A partial taxonomy includes:

  • Bloodlings, the smallest and least powerful of "true" Daemon. Bloodlings are not very intelligent by nature but are somewhat clever. They can take many forms. Eyebiters, Bloodskippers, and Moribunds are all forms of Bloodling Daemons.
  • Hivebrood, a classification for "colonial" Daemons. Hivebrood are not very strong individually but are capable of joining with one another to form a more powerful whole.
  • The Sad Ones, a type of parasitic Daemon that is virtually incapable of physical activity by its own power. These Daemons instead operate by taking control of humans or other creatures, sending small tentacles into the brains of their hosts, using the host's body as their own. The Sad Ones are practitioners of Blood Magick.
  • The Blank Men, humanoid Daemons that are capable of altering their physical appearance to mimic others.
  • Blood Dragons are immense, powerful, monstrous creatures that only vaguely resemble the "common" dragon that lives within the archipelago.
  • Bone Hounds are animal-like creatures that resemble powerful, bone-and-blood covered mastiffs. These are one of the more commonly encountered Daemons, and are not very intelligent.
  • Joy Eaters are a classification of nightmarish creatures. These Daemons take several physical forms and are both intelligent and powerful. Many Daemons of this classification are Blood Magick sorcerers.
