Contents

Cisalpina is the name of a cluster of islands within the Terracopian archipelago. It is controlled by no single state; instead, cities within the Cisalpine archipelago are "free city" - much like those of its southern neighbor, Tuscan.

The archipelago is formed of five major islands: Piedma, Trentino, Lombardia, Veneto, and Guilia. These islands are named after the regions that they once were before the Great Rising.

The archipelago is a hotbed of military and Daemonic activity, as the great Cisalpine Blight exists on the island of Piedma. In recent years, the tempo of the fighting has increased, especially after the destruction of Mila.

[edit] Government

The Cisalpine archipelago has no centralized government. Most villages and towns are self-governing or beholden to one of the many city-states that dot the island.

The closest thing to a central "government" is the Medicia family, who have branches in all major cities.

[edit] Geography

The Cisalpine Archipelago is comprised of five islands:

  • Piedma, the largest island, located in the western edge of the archipelago
  • Trentino, the second smallest island, located in the northern central area
  • Lombardia, the third largest island, located in the southern central area
  • Veneto, the smallest island, located south of Guilia
  • Guilia, the second largest island, in the north west.

[edit] Settlements

By far, the largest settlement on the island is the city-state of Verona. However, there are several other cities of note.

[edit] Verona

Main article: Verona

The city of Verona, on the island of Guilia, is the current forward staging point in the war against the Blight.

[edit] Venica

Venica is a large city on the island of Veneto. It is a curious city, as it is built over a series of canals.

[edit] Mila

Main article: Mila

Located on the island of Piedma, the city of Mila was once a thriving and wealthy port city. However, in 1022 PR, it was overrun by Daemonic forces from the Cisalpine Blight and all life was extinguished in the city - an event with significant political ramifications.

Since then, Mila has been an extremely dangerous place.

[edit] History

Originally, the area that would become Cisalpina was a mountain range and part of the great Empire Romae. However, during the Great Rising, Roma was destroyed, an event which led to there being no central government with authority over the cities and islands of what had become the archipelago.

Over time (and perhaps with direct plotting of the Medicia family) the major cities of the islands became autonomous. Many served as trade centers between the Neuland Principalities and the Empire.
